Affiliate Program & Commission Payout Calculator
See what each affiliate sale earns you after the commission and what the program costs every month.
How the Affiliate Commission Payout Calculator Works
Affiliate programs only pay off if the commission leaves you a real profit. Because you pay it on every sale, a generous rate that wins affiliates can also quietly turn each order into a break-even sale once product cost and shipping are counted.
Enter your price, product cost, shipping, the commission you plan to pay (as a percentage or a fixed amount), and how many sales affiliates generate per month. The tool shows your profit per affiliate sale, the total monthly payout, and your net store profit after commissions. It also calculates the highest commission you can afford while keeping your minimum acceptable margin. The card is red when an affiliate sale loses money, blue when the margin falls below your minimum, and green otherwise.
Key Formulas Behind This Tool

- Net Profit per Affiliate Sale: Baseline Profit per Sale - Commission per Sale
- Total Affiliate Payout: Commission per Sale x Monthly Affiliate Sales
- Net Store Profit After Commissions: Net Profit per Affiliate Sale x Monthly Affiliate Sales
- Max Affordable Commission: Baseline Profit per Sale - (Selling Price x Minimum Margin %)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How is an affiliate commission calculated?
Most programs pay a percentage of the sale price, while some pay a fixed amount per sale. Choose the type in the calculator and enter the value. The commission is then subtracted from the profit you would have earned without the affiliate.
Does the commission apply to shipping and tax?
Programs differ. Many apply the percentage to the product price only, excluding shipping and tax. This calculator applies it to the selling price you enter, so enter the commissionable amount if your program uses a different base.
What does the maximum affordable commission mean?
It is the largest commission per sale you can pay and still keep your minimum acceptable margin. It equals your baseline profit per sale minus the profit you need to keep, shown in dollars and as a percentage of the selling price.
Should I count affiliate sales as extra profit?
Only if they are sales you would not have made otherwise. If some affiliate customers would have bought directly, paying them a commission lowers your real profit. Treat the result as an upper bound and track incrementality when you can.
What commission rate should I offer?
It depends on your margin and what creators in your category expect. Compare the maximum affordable commission with competing programs, and remember that affiliate orders may also carry ad costs, returns, and platform fees that you can model in other calculators.
